Command Prompt Basics

This section is for people that are beginners to using a command prompt. The command prompt of an operating system is a program in that can be used to execute entered commands and perform advanced administrative functions. This way of using your computer used to be the only way. However, nowadays most people are not introduced to this way of working and it can seem quite intimidating to use the command prompt, at first. This section will provide tutorials to the basics of command prompts of both windows operatings systems as well as MacOS users.

Below, two different beginner’s guides are linked to for both Windows and MacOS. For the use of Python, Anaconda and other programs you’ll encounter in the following chapters, it is beneficial to have a basic understanding of the Command Prompt. Especially, accessing the Command Prompt, basic commands and changing directories are of relevance for the following chapters.
